A dark cloud looms over the nation as we lose a precious jewel from the nation of Ghana. This is sad news that no one wants to hear, that death laid it’s icy hands on a shining international star.
The former United Nations’ secretary Kofi Annan has been reported dead after a short battle with illness in Switzerland. Annan passed away in the early hours of Saturday 18th August, 2018, at the age of 80 years.
He served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations after the preceding Boutros Boutros-Chali in January 1997, and was succeeded by Ban Ki-Moon in December of 2006.
He was a man of many achievements, but just to mention a few, Annan was the founder and chairman of the Kofi Annan foundation and also the chairman of The Elders, an international organization founded by Nelson Mandela. In 2001 Kofi Annan and UN were the co-recipients of the Noble Peace Prize for their joint efforts to perpetuate and peaceful global interests.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
