A new wave of young Ghanaian artists have been breaking into the local music scene, and Accra has been the lifelong home to one of these such artists. S3fa, an RnB/ Afrobeats /Soul singer recently signed to Ghanaian artist and entrepreneur D-Black’s label Black Avenue Muzik, has been steadily working on the scene for the past year. Having started out as an independent artist, she worked through the challenges that it brings while studying at the Accra Technical University, where she recently completed her third year.
In a candid interview with AfrilandENT, she admits getting music played on radio and staging concerts and shows had been quite a challenge as an underground artist, on top of the stress of her studies. Eventually, her hard work as an independent and soft but vibrant voice caught the ear of D-Black. In the few months S3fa has been signed she has been able to make many strides. “So far the experience has been amazing. [He] helped put me on so many platforms to showcase my talent.”
Having spent her whole life growing up in Ghana, a country rich in music with a variety of genres, S3fa had a huge passion for music. “As a girl growing up all I ever wanted was to do music, not because it gave me the luxury of getting paid for what I love to do, but [because of] this passion within that wanted me show the world what I possessed as an individual.”
S3fa’s passion for singing shows, having released the highlife song “Marry Me” featuring fellow Ghanaian singer Jupitar, and her recently dropped single titled “Odo Yewu”. She also has two hit projects “WhatABamBum” and “Korkorkor” with her label mates, the BAM All-stars and D-Black. She readily admits going to school full time and building a music career demands a lot of concentration and good time management, but S3fa is steadily gaining traction, and her work ethic is a great example for what dedicated youth can accomplish.
Sefa released a solo track called “Odo Yewu” with visuals to match
Her ambitions for the future include a desire to work with a lot of artist, dreaming of collaborations with Sarkodie, Kojo Antwi, Tiwa Savage, Davido, and Veemoney. S3fa believes the music industry in Africa has been growing globally, and with a lot of support within the community Ghana could produce good talents.
Having a successful music career where her music could be at the top of the charts in Ghana and across the border while helping others is her ultimate goal. S3fa shares that “I have a really soft spot [for] considering empowerment of women and youth. So, I’m looking forward to starting a foundation [in the future].” As a woman in the industry S3fa has set her sights on supporting any woman who wants to work in the music industry. Nowadays women are more involved in different fields in the continent, but S3fa wants to show that the music industry is just as viable for a woman to work in as any other.
Since signing with Black Avenue Music, we are excited and looking forward to more music from S3fa. She is currently working on new music, keeping her lips sealed when we asked about details, “I’m a lover of suspense. All I can say is they should expect nothing but the best from me.”
